My top picks for places to take the kids when traveling to Switzerland
Are you thinking about taking your kids on a family Summer vacation to Europe?
I’m going to be sharing my top picks of things to do with kids in Switzerland. If you’re an outdoorsy family like us you are going to love exploring Switzerland by mountain bike, train and even snowboard!
Here is my fail-safe, easy itinerary you can literally copy-paste. We found it to be so fun, and got everything in that we wanted to do. We saw SO much of Switzerland in 10 days, and you could easily do it in a week too!
Fly into Zurich take the train to St Moritz
Get the Glacier Express from St Moritz to Zermatt (7 hrs - bring snacks!)
Mountain biking and hiking in Zermatt
Then take the train from Zermatt back to Zurich to travel back home
Corviglia 🚂
We had a great time in St Moritz and Corviglia - you HAVE to visit!
We took the train from St Moritz Dorf to Corviglia, where we got the tram to Piz Nair. At Corviglia there is an amazing mountain playground, so many places to eat and any direction you look in, all you see are the most picturesque mountainscapes.
You do NOT want to miss out doing this! It is breathtaking.
Punt Muragl
Next, you grab an uber (or a diagonal train to Punt Muragl Talstation) to head up to Muottas Muragl. This is also the location of Hotel Romantique where we stayed (before kids!). There is so much for the kiddos to do here, zip lines, playgrounds, hikes, trams up the mountains. We could’ve stayed here for a week! Much like everywhere we visited, the food was amazing and we managed to stop by for some lunch with Tudor and Aura in tow.
Glacier Express 🚂
One of my favorite things we did in Switzerland was the Glacier Express. We got on the train at St Moritz heading to Zermatt. With large windows that go up into the ceiling of the carriage, you didn't miss one bit of the scenery which was jaw-dropping!… Unless like us you’re travelling with young kids who constantly need bathroom breaks… then you get to enjoy being squeezed into the train toilet often! 🤣
We jumped off on one of the mountain train stops in St. Moritz, Switzerland for a quick pic in the flower fields🌼🌸 Us mamas know how to make the most of a photo opportunity (the 25k photos stored on my phone are proof 🤣) Truly a forever memory.
If you know kids that love to travel and trains then the Glacier Express is a must when visiting Switzerland!
Birthday biking in zermatt with my sweet Tudor Traian for his 7th!🚵♂️🎂
In the ski town of Zermatt, what better way to celebrate than doing something we both love, going downhill fast on our mountain bikes!💨
We took the Sunegga diagonal train🚊 up and ate lunch in front of the Matterhorn at Sunegga lodge. Then took the 🚡 gondola up to Blauherd before heading down on gravel trails. Best day ever!
The Matterhorn🏔️
Ta da! The biggest mountain in the world, the Matterhorn! According to Aura😉
Fun Facts about the Matterhorn;
🏔️Matterhorn means ‘Peak in the meadows’ in German.
🏔️You can stay n an igloo in the town of Zermatt at the base of the Matterhorn
🏔️ The mountain is nearly 15,000-foot-tall!!
Happy Father’s Day Nicolae!
A day on the Mtn! Sunegga diagonal tram up to the Woli playground, a hike to lunch at Paradise, and a raft across the lake. Congratulations for staying dry although we did get dumped on at the lunch place! 🌦️
Switzerland is such a great place for a family vacation any time of year. We’ve taken summer holidays there, winter getaways, skiing and nature trips and they’re always so memorable and fun.
Have you been to Switzerland? Whereabouts did you go?
